Early Education Program

EEP's - Learning through Play!

Mornington SDS offers an Early Education Program specifically for pre-school children with significant developmental delay. The program caters for children aged between 2.8years and 4.8years.

The focus of the EEP is to provide a structured, individualised learning program for each child with particular emphasis on communication, gross and fine motor skills, behaviour management, toilet training and daily living skills.

Our Early Education Program is  based on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and the Working towards Level 1 of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. The program  focuses on skill development in the following areas:

COMMUNICATION

Emphasis is on language development. Where appropriate, simple Auslan signs, PODD, Boardmaker, PECS and digital augmented communication can be  introduced to encourage receptive and expressive language skills. Looking and listening skills and following simple instructions are an important part of the program.

FINE AND GROSS MOTOR DEVELOPING

Developing skills required to participate in pre-school activities such as using scissors, holding crayons and paint brushes.

Balancing, ball skills, skipping, hopping, jumping and bike riding, all contribute to developing Gross Motor Skills.

ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING

Encouraging independence in eating, drinking and dressing (eg. putting on a paint smock) Independence in toileting is an important part of any kindergarten program. Our program  includes toilet training strategies and the development of appropriate social skills in play and work situations.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT

Staff will assist parents to develop clear expectations, reinforcing positive behaviour and setting clearly defined limits and consequences to inappropriate behaviour. Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in these areas of the program.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Parents are encouraged to be involved in the program until such time they feel they and their child are able to separate happily for lengthening periods of time.
