Occupational Therapy at Mornington SDS

At Mornington Special Developmental School, Occupational Therapy (OT) plays an important role in supporting our students to develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to participate in everyday school life.

Our qualified Occupational Therapist, Fiona Beauchamp, works alongside students, teachers, education support staff and families to understand each student’s individual strengths, needs and goals. Fiona provides practical strategies and supports that can be incorporated into classroom learning and everyday school activities.

Occupational Therapy can support a wide range of areas, including fine and gross motor skills, coordination, sensory regulation, self-care and independence, functional skills, participation in learning, and the development of strategies to help students manage the demands of their school environment.

Working within the school setting allows Fiona to observe students in their everyday environments and develop individualised, practical strategies that help students participate as successfully and independently as possible.

At MSDS, we value the contribution of Occupational Therapy as part of our holistic approach to student wellbeing, learning and development. Through collaboration with staff and families, Fiona helps our students build skills that can make a meaningful difference to their confidence, independence, participation and quality of life.
